JOP PURPOSE
The Senior Medical Editor ensures editorial excellence, content accuracy, and regulatory compliance on assigned brands. They provide editorial leadership of AOR new product launches for HCP/DTC audiences of unbranded and branded materials.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Brand(s) Steward
- Integral and proactive member of brand team(s), participating in status and kickoff meetings, and contributing on behalf of the Editorial department to ensure sufficient timing on editorial tasks
- Creates and updates brand(s) style guide on an ongoing basis per client and MLR feedback
- Distributes updated style guide to brand team whenever content is revised to reinforce that the senior medical editor is the brand steward
- Ensures deliverables adhere to AMA style, brand style guide, and Imre style
- Editorial Authority
- Reviews brand materials and other projects for correctness, factuality, sense, credibility, compliance, consistency, and style
- Demonstrates mastery of different types of reviews (eg, first reads, cold reads, word-for-word, check changes, fact checks, submission reads) and advises when to employ various levels of editorial rigor
- Displays an understanding of promotional regulations, audience, purpose, and client goals and objectives
- Promotes best editorial practices and adheres to standard operating procedures
- Identifies efficiencies when editing and training colleagues
- Advises brand team, copywriters, and other colleagues on editorial topics

- Provides clear, actionable feedback during editorial reviews
- Maintains a professional tone and deals with challenges proactively and positively, values suggestions and constructive feedback
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED;
- Attention to Detail
- Demonstrated ability to identify errors in documents and files at a rigorous level, has an excellent eye for consistency, and a deep knowledge of the English language
- Fluent in AMA style and can find answers to stylistic questions
- Understands how errors are introduced; accepts responsibilities for editorial mistakes, and works to rectify them
- Comfortable working at the computer on complicated documents for long periods while maintaining focus and rigor

- Ability to address problems that can be resolved by applying standard operating procedure or established practice
- Able to resolve problems that are diverse and somewhat complex
- Understands when to escalate problems/issues to Editorial Director

- Ability to mentor/train new editors and copywriters
- Able to review work of more junior editors and freelancers
- Knows how to push back when quality is being threatened; is not afraid to say “no” when necessary and alerts Editorial Director to the situation
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Biology, Life Sciences, Healthcare Marketing or a related field
- 3-4 years of experience as an editor/senior editor in a fast-paced healthcare agency or similar environment
- Proficiency in AMA style, FDA rules and regulations, and rules of spelling and grammar
- Experience with new drug launch(es)
- Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills
- Proven ability to work independently on several brands with tight timelines
- Experience working remotely and comfortable with the tools required for successful remote collaboration
