Position Purpose
The Manager, Mechanical Engineering, oversees a small team of mechanical and structural engineers, providing strategic leadership and technical guidance throughout all phases of project execution. Key responsibilities of this role include technical mentorship, work planning and delegation, team leadership, and active involvement in both departmental and organizational initiatives. A successful Manager fosters a high-performing team culture aligned with TAIT’s Leadership and Culture framework.
Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Apply deep understanding of physics and engineering principles to solve complex, real-world challenges
- Design and engineer structures, machinery, and rigging systems that meet client specifications, jurisdictional requirements, and relevant codes and standards
- Analyze and validate designs using hand calculations, proprietary tools, and advanced simulation software, clearly communicating results in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Support the development and integration of new technologies to strengthen TAIT’s market position
- Initiate, schedule, and oversee the work of direct reports and third-party engineers to ensure timely and high-quality project execution
- Coordinate closely with project managers, mechanical designers, and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with project goals
- Provide mentorship and foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and professional growth within the team
- Collaborate with clients, suppliers, contractors, and external professional bodies to ensure successful project outcomes
- Support bid teams by validating engineering solutions and estimating internal and external labor costs for both standard and custom systems
- Actively champion company and departmental initiatives, promoting a positive and forward-thinking engineering culture

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics or physics required
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
- Mechanical engineering qualifications
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with an emphasis in machine design or mechanical systems
- Expert in multiple topics of mechanical engineering science and practice (power transmission design and analysis, exact constraint design, material science, stress analysis, mechanical connection engineering, dynamic analysis, fatigue analysis)
- Proficient in finite element analysis (FEA) principles with ANSYS mechanical or equivalent software experience
OR
- Structural engineering qualifications
- 7+ years of structural engineering experience with an emphasis in stress analysis
- Expert in multiple topics of structural engineering science and practice (stress and deflection of structures, design for global environmental conditions, connection engineering, aluminum structures, dynamic analysis)
- Proficient in structural analysis with RISA-3D or equivalent software experience
- 2+ years of leadership experience, either in a management role or project lead role
- 5+ years of entertainment industry experience (preferred)
- Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change
- Possess a strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and decisiveness
- Desire to manage, mentor, and inspire staff
- Willingness to travel infrequently, domestic and international, for projects or to other TAIT offices to improve collaboration
